William Turner

Nel corso del '900 è avvenuta la riscoperta e la definitiva consacrazione di Turner.
A impressionare il pubblico, oggi, sono proprio le opere estreme e più evanescenti, quasi al limite dell'astratto.
All'infuori dei musei del Regno Unito e degli USA, sono pochi i musei che vantano almeno un'opera di rilievo del grande paesaggista britannico. Nessuno è italiano. E pensare che Turner ha trascorso alcuni dei suoi momenti più intensi proprio durante i grandi viaggi che ha effettuato in Italia, sulle orme di Claude Lorrain. Le Alpi, Venezia, Roma sono i soggetti preferiti. Ma di tutto questo non vi è traccia nel nostro paese...
